Learning to stand up with no hands is an important skill for all of us to maintain strength, mobility and independence as we age.
There are many ways to do it. I love this variation because it’s a progression you can do one step at a time, adding on as you’re ready.

Cold plunges get a lot of press for benefits including better sleep and reduced inflammation. But even in the midst of a heat wave (I’m living in a furnace this week in NYC), full-body plunging can be counterproductive for those under chronic stress. It is just too much for my own nervous system.
Here are two simpler, less invasive techniques to cool you down physically as well as emotionally.
First: the ice bath facial. Fill a bowl with a combination of ice and cold water. For 30 seconds to a minute, dip your face in and out of it. I love this first thing in the morning to wake up, or in the heat of the day. It is calming yet energizing and will tighten your pores as well!
Second: Run your hands under cold water for 10 seconds. That seriously is it. It’s great to interrupt fight or flight mode, so try to position your next stressful encounter in a kitchen. Then when you need to blow off a little steam, the sink is right there.
Please let me know what you think! And stay cool out there. xo
