5 things I PROMISE do NOT matter as a music educator (so maybe you can stop stressing about them... 💛)

1. Keeping up with an "expected" pace.
Some students need more time with a piece or concept—and that's okay. Mastery is more important than speed.

2. The method books you use.
No single curriculum creates great musicians. Great teachers do. Teach with the materials you know well and bring to life.

3. Making every lesson highly technical.
Technique matters, but so does joy. Ask yourself: Am I helping this student fall in love with music? If the answer is yes, you're doing something right.

4. Comparing yourself to teachers on Instagram.
Social media is a highlight reel. You're comparing hours of your real teaching to someone else's best 15 seconds. Comparison steals joy—and confidence.

5. Burning yourself out trying to do it all perfectly.
Perfect lesson plans, flawless scheduling, endless admin... none of it is worth sacrificing your well-being. Your students need you—present, joyful, and mentally clear. So take the break. Drink the water. Go for the walk. Do something simply because you enjoy it.

Highs and lows... We all have them. I'm here to de-influence you. I'm learning, growing, making mistakes, and trying my best every day-- I don't have this whole business thing and content creation thing figured out at all.

🚨My LOW LOWS: oh you guys 🫠 I've cried so much this week. 😭

1️⃣ First off, both of our vehicles were down for the count. On my birthday, we found out we need a new transmission in our van (our only vehicle that fits all 5 of us). My husband fixed his car but the check engine light just came on again this morning 😭

2️⃣ Secondly, I accidentally deleted our entire email list (over 8 years worth of emails 😭 gone in 5 minutes). With the help of support and a dear friend (Stephanie you're literally the best), we were able to recover over 90% of what was lost.
