Thank you to all of the queens and kings who stood and danced in unison that night as Greenwich Village was protected through community action. May we continue to honor your courage, joy, and pride in the face of oppression for many generations to come.

While it is the last day of Pride month nationally, many counties across the nation continue to celebrate Pride. This includes our home county, Pierce, with several more Pride events in the months to come. We hope to see you all out in the community, showing up unapologetically, you!

Stormé DeLarverie always stood for the community, protecting the people who called the Q***r community home. The night of Stonewall was no different. Stormé was one of many who were cuffed and detained for their identities. Stormé fought to escape transport and resist the police actions that night. While the crowds grew, Stormé resisted. Seeing this level of fight inspired many; when Stormé called to the growing crowd before being tossed into the police transport for the final time of the evening, the words landed. As the transport doors closed, the crowd rose to Stormé's call.

We often look at great advocates and fighters for human rights with admiration and forget that we too can help. Our day-to-day actions and accessible resistance may not resemble the chaos of riots or the raids of Greenwich Village. Still, every effort matters when we work to build community, protect human rights, and uplift our peers.

May we all rise together for a safer more inclusive future.
