Is your pet still covered?

A titer test is a simple blood test that measures the level of antibodies against a particular disease. An antibody is a protein created by the immune system to fight airborne viruses and bacteria. In other words, a titer test allows the veterinarian to determine if past vaccines are still active in the animal's system or if they need a booster. This is particularly important in senior, immunocompromised, or chronically ill pets, but is also helpful in pets with an unknown vaccination history. The test can also be used to verify that a young pet's system responded to the initial vaccination cycle.

Our particular Titer test will check the vaccines listed below for dogs or cats:

Dogs:
Adenovirus
Parvovirus
Distemper

Cats:
Panleukopenia Virus

June is National Pet Preparedness Month. We apologize for the flashbacks this image may bring some of you. It is imperative to include your pet in your emergency plans. Keep them up to date medically and a copy of their records in a secure place you can quickly access if evacuating. Take evacuation orders seriously. If you have to drive after a storm, if the road is flooded do not continue, beware of downed powerlines and other debris.

Prepare by knowing storm shelters that allow pets and learn what the rules are. Make a backup plan in case your top choice isn’t an option.
