PH Firefighters Battle Marberry Drive House Fire
Today, Tuesday, May 11, 2026 at 12:02 p.m. the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District was dispatched to a house on fire in the 1-21 block of Marberry Drive in Prospect Heights. This location is close to the firehouse.
As firefighters were being dispatched, people passing by the firehouse stopped to point out the large amount of smoke coming from that area. With the large amount of smoke visible to firefighters, additional firefighters and fire apparatus were requested to respond. On the firefighters’ arrival, a large amount of smoke and fire was present at the rear of the home. The original fire area was a stand-alone cabana-style building that was close to the home. No other structures were ever threatened by the fire.
The fire was extinguished in about ten minutes of arrival using a single hose line. The rear exterior walls and roof eve sustained significant fire damage. Based on this situation and their experience, firefighters were concerned the fire may have entered into the walls and attic. Firefighters spent the next hour checking the fire that had spread to the home and ensuring the fire was completely out. The interior of the home received minor fire damage and had smoke throughout.
No civilians or firefighters were injured.
A total of approximately 40 firefighters from Prospect Heights and seven other fire departments assisted in the fire suppression efforts. Thos fire departments include Wheeling, Mount Prospect, Des Plaines, Buffalo Grove, North Maine, Niles, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Prospect Heights Fire Protections District reminds everyone to always have two ways to escape from their home or workplace, to ensure smoke alarms are present and working, and to develop an emergency plan should their home or business be destroyed by a fire or other disaster.
