96th Infantry Division
All branches of the American Military suffered tremendous casualties in Europe and the Pacific during World War II. The 96th Division Army Infantry experienced 62% casualties during the War in total. 14,253 men wounded or KIA. At Okinawa the 96th Infantry suffered over 41% casualties as the greatest casualties of any division of Army or Marine infantry at Okinawa. 1,074 KIA, 104 missing in action, 4,654 wounded. 4 in 10 men killed or wounded at Okinawa. 96th Infantry commanders, Generals Buckner and Easily both KIA at Okinawa.
Remember the 96th Army Infantry Deadeyes and all military this Memorial Day. Remember the price they paid for us, for the lives we have led, the freedom we have enjoyed, the prosperity we have been able to have, because they took an oath, they picked up a rifle, and they fought with valor to give us these things. Service, Duty, Bravery, and Gallantry. They paid the ultimate sacrifice. Freedom is never Free! Remember them this Memorial Day!

April 1, 1945, 80 years ago, Operation Iceberg began the last land battle of WWII, the 10th Army conducted an amphibious invasion on the shores of Okinawa. The 96th infantry Division was one of the key Divisions in play throughout the push on Okinawa. They suffered 70% casualties. Remember the Deadeyes!
