Waughsome Farm
We took a walk through the orchard this Friday evening, June 12, and I'm sad to report that sections of the blackberries are succumbing to blight. The early season rain and recent heat are tough on the blackberry canes. There's enough good berries to open for picking but I'll ask our morning pickers to be discriminating and only pick the best of the berries. Ponca blackberries are taking it particularly rough, but Osage, Ouachita, Kiowa and Caddo are doing better.
Meanwhile, we have blueberries to pick but it's not the easy picking it was before.
We can still pick berries and have a good time, but just want to note that picking will require a little more work than it did just a week ago.
** We are going to close for the rest of the day due to rain. **
The weather so far this Saturday morning is partly cloudy and dry, so all systems are go for our Saturday morning pick (8am - 11 am). We have lots of ripe blackberries and blueberries in the orchard so it's going to be a good day to pick.
We surprisingly haven't had much rain this week so the ground is firm and not muddy.
Even if it does rain this morning it may be scattered and quick. Bring a rain jacket just in case. We hope to see you soon.
