One big girl for Karma today! That just leaves Joy as my last holdout. She *should* have been due last Sunday, but the way she's looking has me wondering if she went and got bred again on a later date. I'm retiring her after this year (and really hoping for one last daughter), so of course she's going to take FULL advantage of the doe code! 🙄

Bittersweet start to kidding. Lucy decided to drop her kids early, when I was both asleep and unprepared. I woke up to see two lifeless kids lying in the middle of the stall. Bolted out to the barn and they were both still wet but cold - one was already gone, but the other twitched and made a faint peep. Rushed him back in the house and started reheating him in hot water. After he'd perked up a bit I left him on a heating pad and went back out to the barn for additional supplies. I went to dispose of his brother, but when I bent over I saw another kid tucked under a bunk - dry, alert, and as it turned out already fed! After giving her the once over she went back out with Lucy, who I milked some colostrum from for brother. He took it like a champ (once he was adequately warm - never feed cold babies!) and while he was still very weak at first, he's able to stand today, and I've been packing him back and forth to nurse in the hopes that Lucy will take him back once he's strong enough. I would *really* prefer to not have any bottle babies this year. But I still have 5 does left including 3 first timers, so we'll see :/ At least it looks like this guy will be ok. Since he's L line it's only fitting that his name be Lucky!
