Psilocybe baeocystis, or "Blue Runners," has a reputation for producing unusually intense, unpredictable trips. For decades, foragers and chemists blamed baeocystin, a psilocybin-like compound unique to the species, but studies from 2020 to 2025 show it doesn't get you high on its own. The likely explanation is that baeocystin may compete with psilocin for the same metabolic enzyme, extending psilocybin's effects rather than adding its own.
