Another Criterion Channel recommendation: Babylon (1980, London). Unreleased in the US (until now) due to its blistering, uncompromising look at black life and Jamaican Sound-System culture amid Thatcher era racism/police brutality in Brixton/London. It also has the best dub soundtrack (scored by Dennis Bovell) of any film I've ever seen. A fascinating, disturbing film with absolutely killer music- highly recommended!

Happy New Year everybody! Later, 2020! Really gutted to hear about the death of MF Doom. He died October 31, but his family wanted to keep it quiet and just announced his death today. He was 49. If you haven't heard Madvillain (2004 collaboration between Doom and Madlib), I highly recommend it - a weird-ass, hip-hop masterpiece on the amazing . My fave hip-hop album. Bless you MF Doom, RIP.
