As an Operations Manager in Human Resources, I’ve seen thousands of resumés. But here is the secret: You don't just hire for skills; you hire for character. Skills can be taught; integrity is built over a lifetime. When you're looking to grow your team, look for the 'Quiet Professionals'—the ones who do the work when no one is watching.

"Leadership isn't a hat you put on when you walk into the office;
It’s a mindset you wake up with. In the Navy, our morning 'Muster' sets the tone for the entire mission. Whether you are leading a division or leading your family, start your day by defining your mission. What is your 'Win' for today?

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle toured the Overlord Unmanned Surface Vessel (OUSV) Mariner in Port Hueneme, California-one of the Navy's most advanced large-displacement unmanned platforms shaping the future of autonomous operations at sea.
Sailors and engineers walked the CNO through Mariner's cutting-edge navigation systems, long-endurance design, and the integrated command-and-control suite that allows the vessel to operate with minimal human oversight. As part of the Navy's OUSV program, Mariner is pushing the boundaries of what unmanned surface vessels can do-supporting distributed maritime operations, expanding situational awareness, and reducing risk to crewed ships in contested environments.
Adm. Caudle highlighted how platforms like Mariner are accelerating the Navy's shift toward unmanned-manned teaming and advanced autonomy. He underscored the service's commitment to fielding innovative, resilient technologies that strengthen warfighting readiness and ensure the Fleet remains agile and dominant in tomorrow's maritime fight.

One of the most extraordinary things we get to do in Navy Recruiting is find ways to think outside the box and create opportunities through traditionally unconventional methods. I got to spend most of the week working in Boise, ID, and, as expected, the deckplate Sailors in their element is the best place to be in the "thing" with the team! Here are a few highlights.
Working in a geographical area, the Navy has no other active duty presence.
At no point when I joined the Navy did I ever think I would find myself on a duty status in Idaho or Portland! On a ship!
Watching a Sailor develop that "outside-the-box" way of thinking, using the remote delayed entry option to get someone into the Navy.
Building relationships at reserve centers and pairing them with active-duty Sailors to team up for the Navy-wide Advanced Exam.
Watching a group of junior Sailors go out of their way to surprise their Chief by buying me a cake and flowers to recognize my career milestone and life achievement of earning my master's degree.
Where else do i accomplish a personal goal and have a mob of the people i work with show up and bring me a cake!
Experiences like these remind me of my purpose and motivate me to continue serving.
Tomorrow is my birthday, and I am looking forward to receiving wishes from my loved ones.
