In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating Elizabeth Hart Jarvis C**t (1826–1905)—a remarkable woman with roots right here at Brainerd Place.

Elizabeth grew up in a home that now sits on the Brainerd Place campus in Portland. After the death of her husband, Samuel C**t, she successfully led C**t Fi****ms and became a major patron of the arts, donating much of her collection to the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford.

Today, this beautiful historic home is being thoughtfully restored, and we’re proud to help preserve a place connected to her incredible legacy. Portland Historical Society, Inc.

Women's History Month: Elizabeth Hart Jarvis

Hart Jarvis C**t (1826-1905) has roots in Portland, growing up in a house now located on the Brainerd Place campus. The house is currently undergoing restoration. Elizabeth tightly controlled C**t Fi****ms after the death of her husband Samuel C**t, and she donated much of her extensive art collection to the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. Elizabeth Hart Jarvis C**t is an inducted member of the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame.
