06/16/2026
For those outdoor adventurers! Here are some resources and information to help keep your furry friend safe this summer!
Planning to beat the heat with a visit to a lake, river or the coast this weekend? If you’ll be taking your dog with you, take time now to learn more about where there might be dangerous algae blooms, contaminated water, rip currents, or other potential hazards like wildlife or garbage that could harm your pet.
If you’re taking your pet on a boat, keep them safer by putting them in a brightly colored life vest specifically made for animals.
View current algae bloom advisories on the Oregon Health Authority’s website: https://www.oregon.gov/oha/ph/healthyenvironments/recreation/harmfulalgaeblooms/pages/blue-greenalgaeadvisories.aspx
Thank you to the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) for this graphic about harmful algae blooms. The OVMA also has information about toxic algae on there website at https://www.oregonvma.org/toxic-algae-advisories.
