My birthday was the other day and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make a post about it because I’m not at all where I thought I’d be at 36.

I’m not married.
I don’t have kids.
I don’t have my own place.
I still don’t have a lawyer & I’m going to court next week😳
I don’t have a job and yes, I just opened my first business Ebonee Beauty PDX which is absolutely incredible but omfg the way my solo journey has started…it’s been very bittersweet so far. IYKYK. I’ll save that story for another day 😱

Despite the many ongoing woos, these last few months, and this past year, has taught me a great deal about people. The good, the bad and hella ugly. I’ve always seen the best and worst in people from a young age because I’m a Black girl in America.

I can choose to let terrible s**t make me salty or I can learn, process, laugh it off if need be, and keep it moving.

I’m choosing the latter.

I choose to laugh, heal and grow because not only is that something I need but it’s something that the world also needs. The world needs more kindness and compassion.

Yeah, things are an absolute hot ass mess in my life right now but it’s not forever. I know things will improve for tbe better but oooo baby, the universe has been really TESTING ME. Like okay girl, I see you. Again IYKYK 🤭

Even though I wasn’t really in a celebratory mood, I was intentional about treating myself. I danced at a 2000s decade night, I did a solo date to the movies and spent a day at the salon getting my hair done which was LONG overdue. Special thanks Andrea (on-dre-uh) Sanders

My thoughts on July 4th & America’s 250th.

I hope her birthday sucks.
I hope it rains cats & dogs and all over her fu***ng parade.
I hope the birthday cake is burnt to s**t.
I hope the fireworks don’t fire and the sparklers don’t sparkle.
I hope nobody shows up to sing her happy birthday.

My ancestors were still enslaved during, and after, the first Independence Day in America.

After everything she’s done to my people, and continues to harm marginalized people around the world, America doesn’t deserve a celebration.

And I’m lowkey side eyeing folx who still celebrate the holiday because ICE is still abducting people of color. Black people are still being murdered by police. Indigenous girls & women are still vanishing. People are still losing healthcare. Data centers are still being built & polluting the environment. Not one arrest has been made since the release of the Epstein Files. Like I could go on, it’s a LONG list of bulls**t.

If we expect REAL, positive change in this country. We have to start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. None of this s**t is pretty but we have to be honest about our country and what a better one looks like.

A better America for me would be one that actually upholds democracy, liberty & justice for ALL. An America that’s providing equitable access to resources from food to housing. An America that no longer supports capitalism & white supremacy. An America that gives reparations to Black & Indigenous people. An America who opens her borders to those in need. An America that respects & protects the planet.

And most importantly, an America that has no King.

Are you actually content with the way things are in this country? Because if the answer is yes, oh honey, you haven’t been paying attention.

If you’re aware of what’s been going down, you know that something is terribly wrong with this country. But we still have time to change it. What does a better America look like for you?
