Great information!

A recent systematic review and meta-analysis found cinnamon, fennel, and ginger may relieve pain intensity associated with this condition. Looking at nine studies with a pooled intervention sample size of 333 patients in the trial group and 314 in the control group, researchers found that pain was significantly relieved in the study group compared to the control with cinnamon, fennel, and ginger. Pain duration was also shown to be significantly shorter in patients treated with cinnamon compared to a placebo.

Let’s talk Corona virus...

As most of you that know me, I love elderberry for viruses, as it inhibits the duplication and keeping that virus from changing.

I also love echinacea at the first sign of getting sick because it boots your immune system. I usually recommend echinacea for the first 3 days for the common cold however, this is one one time that taking echinacea for the duration would be more helpful.

Herbs work better in smaller more frequent doses. Rather than following what’s on the label use smaller amounts every hour.
Elderberry tincture: 1 dropper for adults every hour
Elderberry syrup: 1 tsp every hour for adults, 1/2 tsp for children every hour.

With echinacea I don’t recommend teas, unless you know when the root or arial parts were harvested as store bought teas will lose their potency. Tinctures are better and I like to use with a small amount of water. It’s very pungent and this might be the only way to get the dose down. Tinctures do contain alcohol but you are using such a tiny amount that it is safe, even for kids but there are glycerites that contain no alcohol, they are harder to find. Use 1 dropper every hour for adults, 1/4-1/2 for children every hour. For the duration of the virus.

If you travel, I recommend taking echinacea 3 days prior to travel and 3 days after. This will boost your immune system, keeping it at the ready for invaders. Keep hydrated!!! I can’t stress this enough! Staying hydrated keeps our mucus membranes hydrated, like the lining in our sinuses which are a first line of defense.

If you do get the flu...

REST! Contrary to our social belief, you are not a super hero going to work sick, you’re just a germ infested jerk getting your co-workers sick. Rest allows the body to do what it’s meant to do and fight off the virus. Take naps and don’t feel guilty about it.

FEVERS- They are your friend, don’t mess with them by taking Advil or Tylenol. Fevers go up and down, it’s your body’s way of finding the right temperature to fight the virus. Even in kids! The American Pediatric Journal has changed its advice about fevers in children.

DIET-Low carb no sugar! Especially in adults. This is not the time to drink juice. It’s full of sugar. Broth and herbal teas will not only keep you hydrated but are gentle on the stomach. I like using ginger to make tea. It helps with nausea and is a stimulating herb, which supports white blood cells in dealing with the virus. Spicy foods like ginger, can stimulate and help start the fever process. Only use if your stomach can tolerate.
