As we head into summer, we send our warmest congratulations to all of our graduates as they step into their next chapter.

We also want to offer a special thank you to Ian Ritorto, our Board Student Representative, for the time, dedication and service to PPS.

During last week's board meeting, Ian reminded us of something deeply important: student voice is not symbolic. It is essential. When students have a seat at the table, our decisions are more grounded, more honest and more connected to the young people our schools are here to serve.

Ian, thank you for representing your peers with thoughtfulness, care and leadership. We are grateful for the perspective you brought to our Board and our district.

Wishing Ian and all PPS graduates a joyful, restorative summer and a future full of possibility.

Today, Portland Public Schools honors Juneteenth — a celebration of freedom, resilience, and strength. As we commemorate this day, we recognize the contributions, achievements, and leadership of Black communities, past and present.

Congratulations to Lincoln High School's very own Anika Rigby on being crowned the 2026 Rose Festival Queen! Anika is a Junior from Lincoln High and was named Queen of this year's Rose Festival out of 15 Princesses from Portland Area High Schools.

This is the second year in a row a Lincoln student has won this honor!
