I learned a lot from working as a self-employed musician for 8 years. On the outside it probably looked like I was doing well for myself. But the truth is, even after all that time, I had nothing to show for it financially.

I’ve met lots of great people and performed in front of crowds as small as 5 people and as large as 300 people. I had the blessing to record with and work for some of the dopest artists in the PNW. I’ve had a lot of fun. But recently, rather than selling my creative energy to other artists, I’ve been prioritizing myself more.

I got myself a full time job Monday-Friday in sales in early May. I’ve quickly learned how to leverage this job to make some serious cash. Working all day doing something I care about less than music has left me coming home from work on fire with creative energy, and, rather than working for everyone else, I’ve been spending it on my own craft.

Things have changed for Austin quite a bit this year. I know I’m on the right path. I’m finally paying off my debts and making some big-boy moves. This is not a permanent change for me, it’s only temporary. I still have dreams and ambition to break the system, get rich and spend my time and energy doing creative work to help change the world.
