People are tired of accepting anxiety and mood challenges as status quo. Metabolic dysfunction can play a significant role in psychiatric imbalances and even disease. Diet changes can create a strong foundation for how we feel mentally. Dr. Georgia Ede published her book last week which boldly outlines how diet can change mood. Her research using ketones as an alternative fuel to help quiet negative psychiatric symptoms is groundbreaking. I was lucky to participate in a group that studied keto for mental health under Dr Ede and I've seen how the ketogenic approach has impacted so many with a range of conditions from generalized anxiety to epilepsy. The American Nutrition Association also recognizes the benefits of science-backed ketogenic nutrition to improve clinical outcomes in a broad range of chronic metabolic conditions.

If you are interested in how diet can improve attention problems, mood swings, food obsession, depression and even chronic conditions, then pick up a copy of Dr Ede's book. Its a fascinating read!

Metabolic syndrome is clinically defined as a group of 4 risk factor conditions that occur together. They are health risks all on their own, but when combined, they inordinately increase risk for heart disease, stroke and T2 diabetes. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
They ugly 4 are:β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
1) High blood pressure (hypertension)β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
2) High blood sugarβ €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
3) High cholesterolβ €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
4) Abdominal fat β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
What often is not discussed is how ANXIETY contributes to, and/or is the result of, the above 4 conditions. What are some of the effects of long-term or sustained anxiety on our body?β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
There are many, but a recent report out this year highlights the positive effects of diet and nutrition on the following anxiety-related conditions: β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
1) Oxidative stress (brain fog, nervous system impairment)β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
2) Insulin resistance (slow/no metabolism, high blood sugar, cravings, fatigue, tingling in hands/feet, skin tags...)β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
3) Inflammation (brain fog, fatigue, lack of focus, arthritis...)β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
4) Gut/microbiome dysbiosis (leaky gut, heartburn, COPD, constipation, colitis, to name a few)β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
Diet and nutrition can reduce/restore optimal metabolic function. Anxiety is as much a function of metabolic disease as it is a physical/psychiatric condition. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
