Portland Ovations

In a powerful tribute marking the 200th anniversary of Ludvig van Beethoven’s death, enter a bold and intimate reimagining of the composer’s revolutionary sound world through chamber arrangements that reveal his music in a thrilling new light. The program opens with Beethoven’s "Leonore Overture No. 3", newly arranged by Shai Wosner for piano quartet, followed by "Cantares" (2025), a string trio by Andreia Pinto Correia written for acclaimed artists , violin, Stella Chen, Matthew Lipman, viola, and Brannon Cho cello. The afternoon culminates with Beethoven’s monumental "Symphony No. 3" (“Eroica”), also arranged by Wosner for piano quartet, offering a rare and deeply personal encounter with one of the most transformative works in the orchestral canon. Together, these pieces trace a vivid arc of heroism, innovation, and enduring human spirit, inviting audiences to experience Beethoven anew through a lens of intimacy, urgency, and reinvention.
