“It’s been a whirlwind of a year for social change!

If you’ve been following along, or perhaps you even participated, then you will remember the 2020 T:me to Act Fall Equity Summit and the subsequent T:me to Act Winter Symposium. These two events supplied us valuable information regarding the inequity and struggles faced by our most vulnerable populations on campus. President Stephen Percy and Vice President Ame Lambert convened five cross-campus task groups and developed a learning and action agenda to make our vision for a racially just and equitable future a reality at Portland State. The five task forces took this information and proposed a series of recommendations to address these concerns. The recommendations have led to tangle measurable steps which, when implemented, will work to eradicate persistent and structural racism on campus. It is our goal to usher in success for all students, create more equitable working conditions, and sustain an environment where people feel safe, belong, and prosper.

We are committed to follow this up with action, and we must hold each other accountable. This upcoming academic year we will be embarking on the implementation stage of these recommendations. Prioritized recommendations will qualify for funding through the Racial Equity Fund - $1.5 million over three years - for investments to advance student retention and success, nurture en empowering climate for BIPOC employees, and support the development and deployment of an anti-racist lens.

While these recommendations are too lengthy to type here, we encourage you to review them and share your thoughts via the feedback forms in each task force.
