Do you have supply chain Safety leadership responsibilities?
While business strategies for coping with weaknesses in the supply chain (distribution/fulfillment center, warehouse, transportation) are considered, there’s typically one glaring omission – the crucial importance of ramping up safety culture and performance. Attraction, retention and enhanced human performance translates into newly-envisioned strategic benefits of next-level organizational Safety.
Especially in such thinly-staffed, time-driven operations, injuries generate cascading effects. It’s essential that now, Safety leaders go beyond the old talking points from another era to persuade, influence and activate support from senior leaders….
How Supply Chain Challenges Spur Safetys Prominence -- Occupational Health & Safety It’s not just a temporary/pandemic-spiked thing. A survey of respected economists revealed: “Many expect the labor shortage to last at least several more years, and some say it’s permanent.”

"No surprise, you rarely realize great results from minimal approaches. So sterling Safety leaders go well beyond the necessary technical basics to reach, then strengthen others’ beliefs, perceptions, decisions and actions. To accomplish this, high-level leaders rise above cajoling, forcing, guilting, or forcefully “motivating” towards actually engaging, magnetizing, activating and energizing everyone from bottom to top within their organization. This high art of leadership focuses on gelling workers, supervisors, managers and executives towards deeply internalizing Safety and acting accordingly for themselves and one another, at work and away, even when they know no one else is watching."
This article, co-written with Tenneco's Karly St. Aubin, focuses on 7 practical Persuasion Principles from our diverse experiences.

David Bowie probably wasn’t thinking of warehousing/distribution/fulfillment center operations when he sang “Under Pressure,” but his lyrics, “These are the days it never rains but it pours” couldn’t have been more spot on for what’s increasingly impacting this sector.
Time-driven and task oriented, workers in warehouses and distribution centers are exposed to serious hazards regularly. The recent pandemic and other forces have further increased pressures on production and safety. Injuries in a go-go business can further impact coverage, as turnover increases or where employees work in pain or are chronically fatigued – or co-workers have to make up for their absence.
However, some companies have been able to considerably stem this tide while increasing employee retention and elevating their safety culture. This webinar focuses on practical strategies:
• How to internalize Safety – to reduce most-common warehouse-related injuries by improving default attention, judgment and actions
• Strengthening the Safety Culture/Skills connection enthusiasm/motivation and performance
• Strategies for simultaneously leading towards global-class Safety and overall productivity

Leadership begins with mindset, the stabilizing presence of a reassuring, calm and strategic approach for traversing through hard times – and for moving to a higher level. I’ve consistently seen best leaders persistently self-monitor and self-adjust, understanding that significantly changed conditions and environments necessitate new approaches. Because mindset is such a critical leadership tool for directing perceptions and then spurring decisions and actions, it’s essential that leaders periodically realign their own mindset.
The article includes 9 questions leaders might ask themselves to help realign and renew their mindset.
Leadership Mindset -- Occupational Health & Safety High-level leadership has always been a heightened challenge; even more so during these times.

I'm sure most of you have seen photos from the fires here on the west coast. Of our team, Paul's place continues to be the closest to the fires. Here's a photo he took at 9AM this morning.

Many of you have had Paul as your instructor. If you know Paul, you know that he and his wife have a small ranch with horses and other animals. Last night the area he lives in was hit by high winds. The winds knocked trees down, caused power outages, and created high risk conditions for fires. This photo is of a sawmill just down the road from Paul's place.
Fortunately, Paul, his wife, their animals and their home are all okay.
