Stoel Rives LLP
At Stoel Rives, culture is not declared—it is demonstrated.
Michael N. Mills, Sacramento office partner, puts it plainly:
“Everyone matters here. And I've felt that since the moment I walked in the door. Everyone treats everyone with respect.”
That ethic of mutual respect is not just good atmosphere. It is the foundation for collaboration, trust, and long-term performance.

When Monica Browner joined Stoel Rives, she brought her environmental law practice—and her team—with her from another Sacramento firm. What stood out to her right away? The way work gets done here.
“I don’t feel that kind of relationship where I’m working for a partner, but rather that I’m working with a partner in collaboration to solve problems for our clients together. And I know that isn’t an experience many attorneys have at other firms.”
Monica focuses on site contamination, hazardous materials, and air quality—complex work that benefits from national reach and deep trust between colleagues.

The Boise team stepped out of the office and into the spotlight - volunteering at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival and making a lasting impression both behind the scenes and with the audience. https://idahoshakespeare.org/
Our group, the largest volunteer team the Festival has hosted this season, took on a variety of roles to help the evening run smoothly. From prepping the theater and checking tickets to ushering guests to their seats and handling clean-up during intermission and after the show, the Boise office showed up with enthusiasm and teamwork.
The ISF Team expressed heartfelt gratitude for our support, noting how our presence helped highlight the strength and spirit of Stoel. It was a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community, support the arts, and showcase our commitment to service.
A huge thank you to everyone who braved the extreme heat and stayed late to ensure the evening’s success - you not only helped create a memorable experience for theatergoers but also reinforced Stoel’s reputation as a generous and engaged community partner.
Bravo, Boise!

From clerkship to the executive committee—Boise was not the plan for partner Nicole Hancock. It became the platform.
“Being on the Stoel Rives platform, it’s allowed me to develop a reputation and brand as a strong litigator in the Idaho market,” Nicole says. That local trust has taken her to courtrooms in Texas, New York, and beyond—including a record-setting USDA hearing for the National Milk Federation.
But what has kept her here?
“We practice with really smart people, but they’re also really good people… You get good complex legal matters, but you also get a good life experience as well.”

When it comes to water quality law, Nicole Granquist sees the full picture—municipal wastewater, industrial stormwater, construction permitting, and beyond. But what drew her to Stoel Rives was not just the scope of the work. It was the resources she could bring to bear to solve a question for a client.
“I think Stoel is one of the most unique firms because it isn't a huge mega-firm where you won't know folks and you can't have those sort of personal relationships... But it's large enough that you really have the depth of practice that you need in order to provide good customer service these days.”
From her base in Sacramento, Nicole taps into a deep bench across the firm—from Boise to Seattle to D.C.—to help clients navigate the Clean Water Act with confidence.
Client-first. Cross-disciplinary. Built for today’s challenges.
