New blood! Henry joined us last week. Immersed in Japan studies, and especially shogi, he already plays well and knows a lot of the basic concepts. Struggling for good shape!

Javod returned to play Shogi this Saturday. He learned online, and read Shogi For Beginners, and came prepared enough to do some puzzles and play. Contesting Ian on the board helps us learn how to win! --how he wins so far.

Shogi news! The Fuji to Hood beer festival a few weeks ago worked out great. Young players tested out Shogi and Go, including manga cartoon books. Ian is a high school chess coach, and is especially good talking up the games.
Fresh blood! Harry joined us the past two weeks to try shogi in real life. He learned online, and is also studying Japanese with philosophical enthusiasm. He bought a Shogi set at Board Bard Games to get the tactile sense. He plays well already. Watching us play is his favorite part so far, learning fresh tactics and castle-building.
Another new player is expected back next week. Join us! We have several sets, books, and open tables. For myself, I am studying edge attacks, which gave me a victory today against unbeatable Ian. Calm courage and good shape erases fear. Managing to be smart and cunning sharpens the thrust. Ha!

For some reason my shogi play has turned very bad. More study required. Also more exercise. Come shake us up. Ian needs a good thrashing.
