It's a frosty morning here at WattWorks!

For any of my friends with an interest in EVs, last month I was lucky enough to get to participate in a cross country EV race. There were a total of 10 cars, 8 of which were some of the longest range/fastest charging sedans on sale today, plus a gas car for comparison, and a nearly 12 year old Tesla Model S to see how far we've come (which was the car I was in for this trip).

The first episode of a 4 part series documenting our trip just dropped today on the Out of Spec Motoring YouTube channel. This first video mainly just details the cars participating, and the rules of the race. The real fun will start with next week's episode!

Picked up a battery pack to be installed in a customer's Model S this week!

Inspecting the Large Drive Unit in your Tesla Model S or X (or other LDU powered vehicles) for coolant intrusion on a regular basis is extremely important in order to keep it running long term! This is why we are offering FREE "speed sensor" checks for all LDU equipped vehicle owners.

These motors are VERY prone to a failure of the rotor coolant seal, which leads to an internal coolant leak inside the Drive Unit. This leaking coolant can cause all sorts of issues, such as corrosion, loss of HV isolation, and damage to the inverter electronics. Often there are little to no warning signs that coolant is leaking before it's too late, so it's imperative to catch a leaky rotor coolant seal early, BEFORE it destroys your LDU, especially if your car is out of warranty.

QC Charge has specialized in rebuilding the LDU for over 6 years now, and our newest product is our rotor coolant delete manifold, which completely eliminates the rotor coolant seal failure mode (similar to what Tesla has started doing on their latest revision of the LDU within the last 5-6 months).
Vehicles that use the Tesla Large Drive Unit are:
2012-2021 Tesla Model S, RWD and Performance versions only
2016-2021 Tesla Mode X, Performance versions only
2012-2014 Toyota RAV4 EV
2014-2017 Mercedes B-Class ED/B250e

We're all set up for the Drive Electric Earth Month Expo in Portland, hosted by the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association!

We're having a bit of an "Open House" here at QC Charge #2! Tomorrow, Thursday April 11th, 2024, we're hosting the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association for their monthly meeting. The general meeting starts at 7:00PM, and goes until 9:00PM.

Everyone is welcome to attend (including non-OEVA members). If you are interested in learning more about EVs (or more specifically, what we do to keep them on the road here at QC Charge), feel free to drop by! We will be providing Pizza as well!
