Another successful week comes to an end at Dinner and a Movie What did we do? We celebrated a birthday. We got hot food and warming supplies to people living in the camps. Spent some time with an old friend we met doing outreach who was 16 months sober and working a new job. Helped remove over 2 tons of garbage including 87 illegally dumped tires (a solid second place record) and cleaned up a natural area along the Columbia Slough. What a Tuesday night. Our family dinner had a Halloween party last night (yes, yes... I know, fellow Christian, I know.) We had cookie decorating, treat bags, and of course Candy! It was a fun night, the kids were cute. Dinner and a Movie it's a lot of things; one of them is holiday fun.

Sunday was another full day of outreach. We did a lot of medical care with Nurse Wendy. I got stuff out of the bag, and disposed of the used stuff while she did the doctoring. Liam and Quinn managed the food and sock distribution with the Lighthouse crew. It was warmish out so everybody got iced water. We had a great day. In the end the hard work pays off. This week, we saw two more of our friends moved off the streets, detoxed, and in recovery. Answered Prayer.

How did Dinner and A Movie spend Earth Day weekend?

Being good stewards of our city of course.
Saturday we were with Solve in Delta Park. Spring sports are in session. Kids playing baseball, softball, and volley ball made the area come alive and we're proud to make it safer for such events. Special thanks to DeMarini Sports Equipment for hosting the event.
We spent Earth Day with our friends at Solve Oregon in the Omsi area providing outreach to the homeless, making sure the 100+ volunteers were safe, and removing hazardous materials to make our home livable and more secure. It was a beautiful day and an amazing turn out.

What does a day at Dinner and a Movie look like?
1) Start the day with coffee (of course).
2) Meet up with friends from the YMCA Columbia Willamette at our storage shed.
3) Load up hundreds of nice coats for woman and children (3 full loads worth).
4) Drive them to Open House Ministries in Vancouver, a shelter where half the residents are children, and unload.
5) Next stop, the store to stock up on cup-o-noodles and healthy snacks.
6) Head out on the I205 multi-use path. Notice that everyone on the trail seems to have gotten younger (Average age dropped from mid to up 30's to mid-twenties. Some of them are maybe 16. like the girl below.)
7) Help 111 people get a hot meal and medical supplies.
8) Talk to people we know, get to know new people, and foster trust and develop positive life changing relationships.
9) Get ready for the Solve Oregon Neighborhood Clean Up in the mourning.
10) sleep.
