Can transgender women experience PMS (and other menstrual-like symptoms)? A new study says yes!

As with anyone who experiences physical effects as hormones ebb and flow throughout the month, trans women absolutely can (and do) report cramps, cravings, mood changes, and acne. Researchers mapped these symptoms onto study subjects’ estrogen levels and found a correlation between reported symptoms and hormonal highs and lows.

Some of the participants felt that these experiences led to them to a deeper connected with their womanhood, while others felt ambivalent about them… reminding us that no community is a monolith.

Did you know that Trans Fertility Co has an online video library? We know that isolation is one of the most common experiences of trans folks going through fertility journeys, so we set a goal of having every kind of trans fertility story featured in our library. And we’re looking for new stories to tell!

If you’d like other trans people to hear what you experienced so they can learn from what you went through (and feel less alone), please apply to be interviewed for our video library. The library is completely free for any trans person who wants to access it, and it exists behind a password that can only be accessed by emailing us to ask for it (which keeps the trolls out). Each interview lasts an hour, and we’ll edit the conversation down to roughly 15 minutes so people actually watch it.

Fill out an easy application online now (link in bio) if you’d like to be considered! We’d love to share your story with other trans folks on fertility journeys!

Fertility is so tender, especially for trans folks. Many of us freeze up during appointments or medical procedures, forgetting to ask important questions that put us back in the drivers seat. I train doctors to give these answers to trans patients proactively, and want to make sure trans folks know how to get the info you need to make informed, empowered decisions at every stage of your fertility journey.

Transgender women experience disproportionately high levels of infertility even BEFORE starting hormones. That’s why it’s so important to get a fertility workup as early as you can in your process. Delaying transition unnecessarily can be heartbreaking (we hear this story all the time in our DM’s), and a fertility workup is relatively inexpensive and painless.

Put questions about this in the chat, and we’ll respond as we’re able!
