Learn foundational techniques including forming, sizing, soldering, finishing, and setting simple cabochon stones.
Instructor London Battle will walk you through each step of the process, helping you build confidence at the bench while creating wearable pieces youβll be proud to show off. By the end of class, youβll leave with a finished set of custom rings and a solid introduction to metalsmithing and stone setting.

Meet the Instructor: Debra Carus
After leaving the corporate world to pursue jewelry full-time, Debra Carus never looked back. Having studied art all her life, she focused on the ancient arts of filigree, granulation, and the intricate work of stone setting and enameling. Debra combines her formal academic training as a teacher with her passion for sharing skills and knowledge with others. She has sold her jewelry in art fairs and galleries across the country and has been a metalsmithing instructor at Multnomah Arts Center for 20 years, teaches at Nordic Northwest, the National Nordic Museum, Sitka, CMAG, and is the Education Chair for CMAG.
Join Debra for Stone Inlay Pendant and transform broken bits of stone, shell, and gemstones into a vibrant one-of-a-kind pendant. Learn how to create colorful mosaic and inlay effects using crushed stone, sterling silver, and professional finishing techniques.

Use stone, shell, and gem fragments to create a vibrant and colorful inlay pendant! π No experience needed, all levels welcome in this one-day workshop.
Instructor Debra Carus, will show you how to crush your stone into various sized pieces to create a field of color or mosaic effects in your jewelry. Starting with a recessed metal design, similar to champleve enameling, students will fill their pieces with the gem fragments and once complete polish everything into a beautiful shiny finish.
Bring your own broken rocks, shells, or gem scraps, or use the colorful materials provided in class.
