Western Civilization is not real. It’s a social/mental construct that was programmed into your mind by a very deceptive group of humans. Also a small group. So small that most of us aren’t invited. Like George Carlin says “It’s a great big club. And you ain’t in it.

The effects of this construct has had devastating effects on a lot of us. This is the basis for developing an imposter syndrome. Mostly because if this system wasn’t built for you.
That’s because In order to navigate this system it’s impossible for most of us to “just be ourselves”.

So we wear masks in society. We all wear masks sometimes to be able to make it through the day. Sometimes we have to take on the personalities and characteristics of somebody who we aren’t. Sometimes we have to wear a mask to feel a little more courageous, or a little happier, or stronger, or just need to hide behind the thing to catch our f**ken breath!

Growing up hood we were taught to believe that it’s not genuine to act like somebody you aren’t. We were led to believe the this makes you fake, or a liar.

But sometimes we need to wear that mask. I’ve come to understand that wearing a mask isn’t a problem, it’s actually pretty f**ken necessary. The problem arises when you don’t know that you’re putting the mask on.

Be “TRUE TO THINE OWN SELF” (The title of this piece) is a reminder that it’s ok to wear whatever mask you need to, to get through whatever you need to get through. But stay aware of when you’re wearing the mask, and when it is ok to take it off. You are in charge of when the mask goes on. It’s ok to be real with YOURSELF about it. To Thine Own Self, Be True.

In the words the great poet 2Pac shakur change? S**t. Change can be good for everyone. Change doesn’t always FEEL good though. But it’s important to remember that change is the ONLY thing that is real. Embrace change even when it hurts. You never know, it may be the chrysalis to the growth that helps you fly 🦋
