We loved hosting students from the University of Georgia’s College of Environment & Design at the GreenWorks studio! 📚🎓

It was a great morning sharing our work, expertise, and areas of specialization. Students enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the studio and a closer look at what we’re currently working on. Thank you for the thoughtful questions and for bringing such great energy to GreenWorks. We hope to see you out West again soon!

People + Nature by Design

It’s more than a mission, it’s who GreenWorks is at its core. We bring people together, look to nature for guidance, and use design to create places that are resilient, beautiful, and deeply connected to their communities.

Flashback Friday to the Westmoreland Park Nature-Based Play Area!

GreenWorks partnered with on this pilot project to transform an outdated playground into an immersive, nature-based play environment rooted in community vision. Through a robust public engagement process, the design features unique play elements custom-made for the park that reflect that vision.

Working alongside environmental artist Adam Kuby, the team integrated sculptural elements that double as play features, blending art, ecology, and play. Sustainable strategies, from salvaged materials and native planting to water-wise design and stormwater management, are woven throughout.

Opened in 2014 and still “wildly” popular, the project received an ASLA Oregon Honor Award and remains a great example of how thoughtful, community-driven design can create lasting impact.

After several years of planning, design, and construction, the Willamette Water Supply System Water Treatment Plant in Sherwood, OR will soon provide clean drinking water for much of Washington County, as part of the larger earthquake-resilient WWSS (Link Below). GreenWorks also contributed to other components of the WWSS: the Raw Water Intake in Wilsonville and the reservoir on Cooper Mountain.

This cutting-edge treatment facility includes an Administration building, designed by MWA Architects, which features public spaces including courtyards, a conference room, and an overlook platform in the preserved native forest surrounding a Kolk pond wetland. GreenWorks used the theme of overlapping water droplet ripples for the courtyard design, and rainy days will activate the building and front courtyard.

Rain water on the roof will be directed to scuppers and then pour into stone basins, in full view from inside the front doors and from the conference room. The roof water will then run through an ornamental trench drain toward a planted rain garden.

With years of anticipation, it is rewarding to see the project come to life. The stone masonry by Dennis’ 7 Dees is excellent and the courtyards are starting to take shape with the trench drain and pavers now installed. This is one small part of the 30 acre site for which GreenWorks also designed (in collaboration with Consor) frontage streetscape, monument signage, walls, security fencing and gates, screening strategies, and restoration planting.
