Last night I sat with Walt Whitman.

Not to learn.
Not to gather language.
Not to sharpen my own voice.

Just to receive.

There is a way of living where we are always reaching —
always shaping, becoming, manifesting, building the next horizon.

And then there is another way. A way of resting in the great river of what has already been sung.

Overflow is not only what pours out of us.
It is also what we are willing to let pour into us.

To sit with a poem.
To feel the weight and warmth of another soul’s expression.
To let it move through without needing to answer it.

This too is abundance.

The oak does not strain to produce acorns in winter.
The tide does not apologize for its retreat.

There are seasons when we create.
And there are seasons when we are created —
shaped quietly by beauty,
restored by the work of others,
fed by the courage of those who spoke before we could.

Manifesting is not constant motion.
It is alignment. And sometimes alignment looks like stillness.

Today, I am grateful for the ones who sang before me.
Grateful that I do not have to generate light —
only to recognize it.

Rest is not the opposite of overflow.

Rest is how overflow remembers itself.
