Our pals over at made a video type thing for the song ‘Don’t Wanna Live’ from the new album. The song has a cannibal joke in it.

Timesbold – Not Still Here 03/16/2023

1st review we've seen for the new Timesbold album. Somebody read it for me please.

Google translation or something:

Jason Merritt is one of the most well-known unknowns in the folk and singer/songwriter microcosm. With his various bands and projects he has been releasing music for over 20 years, most recently as Whip or with the Miracle Whips. For the first time since 2008, there's a new album from Timesbold, whose folk and Americana has undergone at least as many iterations as the lineup. This, according to Merritt, consists of two to twenty people - depending on when and who you ask. Nothing has changed in the protagonist's great songwriting qualities, as "Not Still Here" impressively demonstrates.

In 14 episodes, Merritt sings straight from the heart. "What A Fool Am I" seems like a statement in the tradition of great country veterans, more deeply rooted than ever in Americana realms and at the same time presented with a certain wink. There is very little of that to be heard in the concluding “Now I Lay”, which already has subtle Vedder vibes. Implied resignation collides with cautious optimism, no matter how disturbing this form of reduction may be from time to time. Ultimately, Merritt is in a "constant state of goodbye" and whistles one.

It's a little surprising that the opener for Timesbold takes on epic dimensions and lasts almost five minutes. In fact, "Stuck In A Wind" prepares the rest of the record in a powerful way, introduces a strange and fascinating world and watches as the action picks up speed. The rare use of electric guitars adds some drama and intensity to the distorted, lumbering second half, lending additional weight to Merritt's words. It should remain an exception, even if the country-affine "Old Orleans" takes some of that with it.

Jason Merritt is and always will be a strong storyteller, it cannot be said enough. When he shows up, he does it with style and vigor. His words on "Not Still Here" carry weight and don't just manage the Timesbold legacy, they develop it. The opener may lead you on the wrong track, but at the same time it is one of the most interesting new tracks. Behind it, familiar, no less gripping fare between Americana, country, folk and singer/songwriter awaits, crowned by a fascinating voice and no less rousing lyrics. Merritt has to be listened to, no matter the name.

Timesbold – Not Still Here Jason Merritt ist einer der bekanntesten Unbekannten im Folk- und Singer/Songwriter-Mikrokosmos.
