Milestone Recovery

As Maine gathers for the Governor’s Opioid Recovery Summit, one message matters: low-barrier shelters are part of Maine’s recovery infrastructure.

For many people living with homelessness, substance use disorder, mental illness, and trauma, a low-barrier shelter is often the first safe door to recovery and support services.

These shelters provide immediate safety, overdose prevention and response, crisis support, and connection to detox, treatment, housing, health care, and long-term recovery.

But this safety net is fragile. One-time funding helps, but sustained investment is what keeps doors open, staff in place, and people connected to care.

Tonight: Even As We Grieve: Harm Reduction & Recovery Community Event

Join us this evening, Thursday, June 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Crewe Center for the Arts at USM, 111 Bedford Street in Portland.

This free community event includes the Even As We Grieve exhibition, live music, resource tables, light food and refreshments, an original performance from Portland Recovery Community Center sharing lived experiences of recovery, and a community conversation led by Commonspace’s Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialists.

Milestone Recovery will be there with a resource table, and we would love to see you.

This is a meaningful evening centered on grief, recovery, harm reduction, community, and connection. All are welcome.
