Stop in and say goodbye!

After almost 20 years serving the EDM and global dance music community, the time has finally arrived to say “goodbye.” Opaline will close its doors with its last show on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024.

UPDATE!!! We had hoped to host a free party Saturday, November 23rd and will no longer be able to do so. Our final days are 11/22 & 11/27.

Many will not know that we opened originally in this space as Pala in 2005, bringing both local and touring artists. From 2010-2012, we assisted with the early stage of the Barrel Room. The Whiskey Bar was opened in 2009, a mere two blocks away, bringing larger shows and legendary talent over the next eleven years. During COVID, we closed The Whiskey Bar, but returned to the space where we originally started and opened Opaline.

For the last eleven years, The Whiskey Bar and Opaline have been solely female-owned, with a strong desire to bring people and communities together through music and dance. It has been our mission to instill positive, healing vibes in our space.

The Whiskey Bar and Opaline PDX have also served as an incubator and launching pad for many event producers/promoters in this scene that have moved on to bigger things.

Most notably, at Whiskey Bar, this included Red Cube Presents (who also served as our booking manager for a period, and with whom we co-hosted many shows), ROSÉ Entertainment, Global Based, Juice Drumandbass, Mission Trance, DJ Prashant and others. A few followed us over to Opaline and we also nurtured MANY new relationships.

We have been SO honored to support growth in the scene and to host a diversity of events showcasing international, national and local talent throughout the years. You are so many, it is impossible to list everyone here - but please know our gratitude runs very deep to have worked with every one of you!

Our sincerest gratitude also to our very loyal staff, from sound engineering, social media, front and back of house staff (you know who you are!) and the thousands of customers who have come through our doors. We couldn’t have done it without all of you! Please know this was not an easy decision to make and that we will truly miss the music and seeing all of you!😊

Many thanks to The Oregonian for the feature of Portland: Holi Hai - Festival of Colors Bollywood Party | DJ Prashant. We loved our old space. However, attendees always wanted more of an outdoor patio than we could provide. Opaline.PDX has a smaller indoor space. We've gone more intimate. Yet the courtyard offers an open energy feel that certainly surpasses the Whiskey Bar alley of old.

One of our favorite crews: Team Yellow is joining forces with our old friends at Mission Trance, for a new year's eve celebration of unforgettable Electronic Dance Music at Opaline.PDX (formally Barrel Room Portland and prior to that... we actually had the space under the name Pala) in the heart of Downtown Portland.
