OMSI, Rose City Astronomers, and Oregon Parks and Recreation invite you to our free public OMSI Star Parties. The Star Parties provide a great opportunity to meet other people that share your interest in astronomy, and to view the planets, moon, stars, and other celestial sights through telescopes and binoculars of all sizes. From beginners to experts, all ages are invited.

We recommend visiting OMSI's website on the day of the party for possible weather-related cancellations.
Warm clothing and a flashlight with red light are recommended. Personal telescopes and binoculars are welcome.

Have you seen the brightly colored tufted puffins at Cannon Beach’s Haystack Rock? Home to the second-largest onshore tufted puffin population in the continental U.S., it’s also one of the most accessible places in the Northwest to observe them, with the rocky, grassy habitat they prefer for burrowing nests in otherwise hard-to-reach spots.

Typically seen from April through August, with the best viewing between 8–11 a.m. when they’re most active, often heading out to fish for their young.

Haystack Rock Awareness Program (HRAP) is on the beach during every daytime low tide from
through October 31st to educate visitors on the local intertidal and seabird ecology.
