BREAKING: The Senate has approved a War Powers Act resolution directing Trump to withdraw U.S. armed forces from hostilities against Iran — with four Republican senators breaking ranks to make it happen.

The resolution, brought by Sen. Tim Kaine under the 1973 War Powers Act, passed 50-48. It directs Trump to remove U.S. forces from Iran hostilities except where necessary to protect U.S. personnel or allies from imminent attack.

The Republicans who crossed the aisle:

🔴 Susan Collins (ME)
🔴 Lisa Murkowski (AK)
🔴 Bill Cassidy (LA)

The Democrat who voted NO:
🔵 John Fetterman (PA)

Two Republicans — David McCormick (PA) and Mitch McConnell (KY) — didn’t even show up.

This follows House passage earlier this month, where four Republicans also sided with Democrats.

While the resolution doesn’t carry the force of law and doesn’t require Trump’s signature, it is a formal, bipartisan rebuke of further military escalation — two days after Trump threatened to bomb Iran “only harder.”

When the news finally reached Galveston on June 19th, 1865, it was two and a half years late. The Emancipation Proclamation had already been signed. Freedom had already been declared. But declared and delivered are two very different things.
That gap — between what’s promised and what’s actually given — is still the story. Voting rights are still being stripped. Black communities are still overpoliced and underserved. The wealth gap hasn’t closed. The fight looks different but it hasn’t stopped.
And neither has the resilience. Juneteenth has been celebrated since 1866, not because the work was done, but because joy is also resistance. Because hope is not naïve, it’s necessary.
