ALERT: Phishing phone scams impersonating TD Bank.
The Portland Police Department is warning residents about a rise in phishing phone scams involving callers impersonating TD Bank “Fraud Division” representatives. Caller ID may falsely display TD Bank’s real number: (888) 751-9000.
Do not share any information. Instead, ask the caller:
“If any of the charges are not mine, are you the person who will help me fix it?”
Legitimate TD Bank reps will say “NO” and instruct you to hang up and call the number on the back of your card or visit a branch.
Scammers will claim they can fix the problem or transfer you.
Red flags include: long calls, pressure or aggression, and attempts to gather personal information.
TD Bank Security Center advises that using this one question can immediately stop these scams.
Stay alert. Hang up. Call your bank directly.
