Object: Two Pages from the Blue Qur'an

These two pages belong to the famous Blue Qur'an, one of the most remarkable manuscripts of the Islamic world.

Produced during the AH 4th / AD 10th century, the manuscript was written in gold Kufic script on parchment dyed with indigo, creating a striking combination of deep blue and gold. Research has shown that pages now preserved in museums around the world all formed part of the same Qur'an, which is believed to have originated from the Great Mosque of Kairouan.
