Everyone’s mad about Nolan “casting for diversity points” to be eligible for Oscar wins with The Odyssey — but almost nobody has actually read the rule they’re quoting.

Best Picture eligibility only requires clearing 2 of 4 Academy standards. Casting is ONE possible path out of FOUR. A studio the size of Universal clears this through its own standing internship pipelines and marketing leadership alone — the same way Oppenheimer did. No casting required, no casting used as leverage.

Nolan had full creative freedom. The outrage is aimed at a rule that isn’t doing what people think it’s doing.
