Hi Folks!

I’m excited to host my next Draw-In tomorrow, Saturday, July 8th, from 1pm-5pm at Carnation Contemporary as part of the WAVE Collective group show, “Friend of a Friend”. This event will continue my focus on building community connections by using experimental drawing prompts and the element of chance to get to know each other in new ways. As always, the invitation is open to anyone and everyone who would like to participate— take a moment to meet new people or convene with friends, see the current show and try something new. Feel free to bring your own drawing supplies or use those provided. I hope to see you there!

Throw back to January, when I held my last Draw-In, also to support the Mind Map book fundraiser. I have another one coming up in July!
..

On Saturday January 28th, from 3-7pm, Reuben Breslar invites all to participate in a work-in-progress hosted by After/Time Collective. The “Draw-In”, as Breslar calls it, will provide the unique opportunity to sit, draw, and talk with strangers and friends alike. The purpose is to celebrate the individual while upholding community awareness.

“In 2007, I began hosting community-based Happenings called ‘Draw-Ins’ that transformed galleries into sites of social intervention. I was interested in exploring the social politics of galleries by addressing the functional roles that they play in their communities. As the Happenings have to do with organizing people, creating a ritual and growing together through a vulnerable experience, I want to combat our over-mediated reality with an opportunity to celebrate the human experience directly, involving elements of physicality, behavior, and trust.”
This event occurs concurrently with the fundraiser for Breslar’s first book, The Mind Map Archive, a ten-year social science project rooted in art and mental health. Celebrating over a decade of community collaborations and artistic development, Breslar is thrilled to be hosting his first Happening in Portland at After/Time Collective.

Drinks, pencils, and paper will be provided and feel free to bring your own drawing materials and sketchbook! This event is free and open to the public.
