Until March 15, 1820, Maine wasn't its own state—it was the District of Maine, governed by Massachusetts. It became the 23rd state as part of the Missouri Compromise, a pivotal moment in American history.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that a home inspection is a "pass or fail" test.

It's not.

A home inspection is there to help you understand the condition of the home before you close. Every home—whether it's 5 years old or 100 years old—will have a list of findings. The goal isn't to find a perfect house; it's to understand what you're buying and make an informed decision.

Depending on the terms of your purchase agreement, the inspection contingency may allow you to:

The Legend of Colonel Buck's Tomb
One of Maine's most famous ghost stories isn't hidden deep in the woods—it's right in the heart of Bucksport.

Legend says that Colonel Jonathan Buck, the town's founder, sentenced a woman accused of witchcraft to be burned at the stake in the late 1700s. Before she died, she supposedly placed a curse on him, declaring that the mark of her leg would forever appear on his tomb.

To this day, visitors point to a mysterious stain on Colonel Buck's granite monument that resembles the shape of a woman's leg.

Over the years, the monument has reportedly been cleaned, repaired, and even replaced, yet the mysterious mark continues to appear. Is it simply a natural discoloration in the stone... or is there more to the story?

Whether you believe the legend or not, Colonel Buck's Tomb has become one of Maine's most famous local mysteries and a fascinating stop for history buffs and ghost story enthusiasts alike.
