Today, Portland police held a press conference and identified 49-year-old Bruce Whitman as the suspect who crashed a vehicle into the Multnomah Athletic Club Saturday morning. Investigators said the car was filled with propane tanks and explosive devices. If they’d all detonated, the damage would have been much worse. Whitman had several previous interactions with the Portland Police Bureau Behavioral Health Unit and had a history of being placed on mental health holds, including a recent hold in February 2026. The suspect in the crash was found dead at the scene.
