I wasn’t their top pick on paper.

This was a senior leadership role for a high profile Department of Defense project.

They wanted pedigree, polished credentials and big titles that I didn't have.

But what I did have?
💥Real wins.
💥Real experience.

And ONE credential that means something when you know how to use it. Can you guess what it was? Back to the story first.

My mentor reached out to the VP and said, “He’s not your obvious candidate. But he’s the one who can actually do this.”

So they gave me a shot, one interview to land it! No pressure.

I walked into that room, and didn’t wait for them to lead.

I used their whiteboard to break down how to stand up a project of that scale with consistent structure.

Included plans to integrate scope, schedule, and cost in an EVMS using proven frameworks, not guesswork.

This wasn’t about reciting interview questions, it was about showing them I came in already doing the job.

When you’ve trained to lead with strategy, not memory, you never question what to do next or wait to be told what to do; you show up ready to solve.

That’s what the PMP gave me (the ONE credential 😉).

Frameworks to lead with, the language of business, and a system to rely on when the pressure was high.

⚡I focused 5% on the problem and 95% on the solution.
⚡And that’s why I got the role.

Not because I looked good on paper.

But because I came in prepared to move the mission forward.
