Jannik Sinner vs Vasek Pospisil | Sofia 2020 Final Highlights 11/23/2020

With a lot of tennis players unable to hit as regularly as they used to, I hope they are at least still watching some good tennis on tv. Sometimes it can be difficult learning from watching the pros because of the fast paced nature of the modern game. Here are a few tips to make learning from the comfort of your own couch a little easier.

1. Watch players that you admire.

If you hit a one handed backhand, watch someone with a good one handed backhand. If you are a counterpuncher, watch someone speedy. I’m not saying to avoid watching other players, but if you’re looking to learn some tips, it’s best to find players that play a little more like you do!

2. Focus on the player at the bottom of the screen.

Normally when I watch a match just for the entertainment value, I’ll watch both players and follow what they do with the ball. However, if I’m looking at the way a player hits a certain shot, I’ll watch only them. By focusing on the player at the bottom of the screen, you get a first person view of how they hit and move. (e.g. If you’re a righty watching a righty, their forehand will be on the right side of the screen.)

3. Take note of how the point ends.

Sometimes a player starts hitting a lot of a certain type of winner or error. By studying the specific shot that is causing those results, you might be able to notice small details that explain why the shot is so successful or not.
