URGENT: letters needed by public hearing date – Sept 2, 1:30PM
Ordinance 869 proposes to create clear and objective standards for protection of Significant Natural Resources (SNRs) as a result of appeals filed by a group in Garden Home. If it passes, it will become permissible to present arguments about climate change, livability, wildlife , etc.
Please submit your letter of comment on or before September 2 supporting stronger SNR protections, particularly tree protections--both inside and outside of SNRs. You can bring up issues such as
* climate change
* importance of nature within neighborhoods
* value of trees to the environment, wildlife and people
examples of how development has impacted SNRs or trees
It’s better than nothing to submit a letter simply stating that Ordinance 869 does not do enough to protect our remaining SNRs or trees.
Letters need to include full name and address of the person(s) submitting the letter and the Ordinance #. Letters can be submitted to [email protected]
Read Ordinance 869 Purpose and Summary -https://www.co.washington.or.us/LUT/Divisions/LongRangePlanning/upload/869_wNotice_072420_web.pdf
A copy of the staff report--which is much more readable than the ordinance--begins on page 28 of the agenda packet for the August 19 Planning Commission meeting. https://www.co.washington.or.us/LUT/Divisions/LongRangePlanning/2020-ordinances.cfm
The rules that are being created when this ordinance is adopted are the types of rules (or lack of) that regulate what an applicant, such as a Chevron Gas Station, must comply with to gain approval for an application. Any changes adopted with this ordinance or any future ordinances will NOT have bearing on the existing gas station application, but likely would have impacts on any new applications filed.
