Every day in my job as an animal trainer and behavior consultant, I try to shift peoples’ perspectives on how dogs actually learn. Dogs don’t have morals. They do what comes naturally to them and, when we take them into our homes, we need to teach them how to live in a human household. We do that by making the behaviors we want them to perform rewarding. We show them what TO do.

I stand with Dr. Lisa Radosta and so many of my amazing colleagues who put science and welfare above outdated practices of punishment.

There’s a big stir in the dog training world right now. Some organizations are saying it’s okay—under certain conditions—to use shock, choke, or pinch collars. Others firmly stand with the overwhelming science that demonstrates that methods which cause pain, fear and panic increase physiologic stress and are not more effective than methods that don't. And some? Just staying quiet. But organizations are made of people—just like you and me. 💛 If you believe that animals deserve better, if you believe in training rooted in kindness and science—not suffering—it’s time to speak up. 📱 Make your voice heard.
