Happy Juneteenth!

June 19th is a day to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US.

Juneteenth was first celebrated in Texas, where on this day in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is celebrated on the anniversary of the order by Major General Gordon Granger proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865. It is important to note that this was two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth become a federal holiday on President Biden signed bipartisan legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday onJune 17, 2021 . The bill passed the Senate unanimously and was approved 415-14 in the House.

Needless to say, today is a day to celebrate and reflect on the many freedoms we enjoy today that were not afforded to those who came before us

Flag Day is a celebration of the American flag that occurs every year on June 14 to remember when the Continental Congress introduced our country's first flag as the official American flag on June 14, 1777.
