Does TMS Help Depression?

TMS works by using a magnetic device to stimulate areas of the brain. These areas are known to be involved in major depression. Stimulation of specific areas of the brain resulting from a TMS treatment needs to repeat 5 days a week . This is typically over the course of 6 weeks. Some studies show that 70% of patients will show a clinical response to TMS. Around 45% can experience a remission of depression symptoms. Of those that respond 60% remain well after 1 year. Dr. Ravsten uses the Magventure MagPro machine to administer TMS. A typical treatment session lasts 20 minutes. However, depending on your clinical case and insurance coverage it is possible to reduce treatment time to 3 minutes!
