Sometimes the best catch… is the one you let swim away. Catch-and-release fishing helps keep Minnesota’s lakes healthy and full of fish for years to come. By carefully releasing fish—especially large breeders—anglers help maintain strong populations of Walleye, Minnesota’s state fish. When practiced properly (wet hands, quick handling, and gentle release), catch and release allows fish to survive and continue growing, spawning, and supporting the future of our fisheries.
