Swipe through for a glimpse into life as a Coastal Research Institute intern! 🌿

The Coastal Research Institute (CRI) is a partnership between Loyola Marymount University and The Bay Foundation that provides students with opportunities for undergraduate research, specifically to apply science to real-world environmental challenges affecting Santa Monica Bay and its watersheds! Since its launch in 2017, CRI has supported over 100 student internships, helping train the next generation of coastal scientists, environmental leaders, and changemakers.

🌿 What are CRI interns up to with us this summer? Surveying! By surveying birds, insects, and native plants at our beach dune restoration sites, interns help collect important data that allows us to track habitat recovery, monitor native and invasive vegetation, and measure the success of our restoration efforts including documenting repeated nesting of the threatened Western Snowy Plover. Along the way, they’re gaining hands-on experience in plant identification, ecological monitoring, data analysis, and other field skills that help prepare the next generation of coastal scientists.
