hey hmf followers....we got a Dixie update 😻

She came through surgery like a champ!

Dixie says thank you to all that donated to help her get her CCL fixed. She is day 2 post surgery and handling the "downtime" well. She has a nerve blocker on board that will last about another 24 hours and is already started oral pain meds so she can transition well.

There is a crisis in dog rescue as I am sure everyone is aware of, check any rescue page, county animal shelter, or village animal shelter...everyone is full and there are more dogs coming in everyday. What happens when the shelters are full and rescues have no room? Well there are several things, dogs get turned loose, rehomed to less than desirable groups/people or longer residents at the shelter get euthanized for space.

This is the dog rescue reality. When we started Hedd Mutt, and still today, we would get told "I bet you are having so much fun, with all those dogs" , no rescue is not fun, it hard, it is emotional, however, it is one of the most rewarding things we have ever done, that is why folks do it. Now not everyone is ready or able to be in the thick of it and see the disgusting and unimaginable things people are capable of and that is all right, there are so many ways to be involved to help the dogs, to include not even having a dog in your home.

So our ask is this...we are rebuilding, we are in need and looking for fosters and volunteers.

For fostering - there are a couple options that we would love to discuss with those interested - you could foster a sanctuary dog for their live, you could be an emergency/vacation foster - which is would be for up to 1-2 weeks or we work together to find a great fit for you from a shelter and you help us get that pup ready for their adoptive home or you decide to adopt them yourself.

For volunteering - we need dog walkers for sanctuary dogs, and then as we rebuild will need help with admin type stuff.
